Here is a picture of the Natchez crape myrtle that were planted in August 2000 west of Hanley Road.
The Town 'N Country Park Home Owners Civic Association planted these in August 2000 with the help of Parks and Recreation Department.
The tree was designated the "Official Millennium Tree" of Hillsborough County. Trees were grown by the Future Farmers of America at Durant High School in Valrico Florida and purchased for $5 each by your civic association
The Town 'N Country Garden Circle took over maintenance in 2002. The circle fertilizes, deadheads, cuts suckers periodically during the year. In January each year the garden circle members prune competing branches and to elevate the trees.

The Town 'N Country Park Home Owners Civic Association received 18 live oaks from Hillsborough County Mitigation Program in 2000.

These oaks were planted in August 2000 at the same time the Millennium crape myrtle were planted by the civic association and staff from Parks and Recreation.

This oak is just west of Hanley Road. Picture taken July 2007. These trees had an excellent survival rate.

The civic association, Town 'N Country Garden Circle, Town 'N Country Youth Council and Twelve Oaks Civic Association have planted over 1,200 trees on the greenway since 1993. Species include live oak, slash pine, Natchez crape myrtle, eastern red bud, Japanese plum, and queen palm.

Some of the 25 live oak trees planted on January 18, 2004. The Town 'N Country Park Home Owners Civic Association received a $2,500 native tree grant from Hillsborough Country Office of Neighborhood Relations in 2003.

Green Thumb Nursery won the bid and planted these trees on the Town 'N Country Greenway on Bonnie Lane, a spur off the main Holtzer-Hale trail that leads to the convergence of Channel G and Rocky Creek

These trees had a terrible first year. Due to construction of the Webb Road bridge we were unable to get to the trees to water them.

Also, in the first year, the oaks had 3 visitors; Charlie, Frances and Jeanne (hurricanes). All knocked down these trees. Civic association volunteers uprighted the treees and restaked them after each hurricane. About half did not survive.

The Town 'N Country Garden Circle maintains these trees with fertilizer and each winter pruning to remove suckers and elevate the oaks to promote them! growing tall.

This eastern redbud replaced a redbud that was planted in December 2006.

It was planted June 4, 2007 by the Town 'N Country Garden Circle and Town 'N Country Youth Council on the south side of the Town 'N Country Greenway parking lot west of Webb Road.

The redbud was planted as part of the garden circle's honoring National Arbor Day.

Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Mitigation Program donated this 15 gallon tree to the garden circle.

You will notice (to the right and behind) a 3 gallon redbud that was planted in December 2006.

Of the 472 trees that have been planted since 2000 only $300 has been spent by the Town 'N Country Park Home Owners Civic Association for trees. That was for the 60 crape myrtle planted in 2000.

The balance of the trees were donated or purchased with grants.

Gene Ann Kennedy, President of the Friends of the West Gate Regional Library, donated 3 eastern redbud bare root seedlings to the Town 'N Country Garden Circle in 2003. Rob and Fran Gamester, garden circle members potted the redbuds and grew them at home for 3 years.

Town 'N Country Garden Circle and Town 'N Country Youth Council members planted them on the Town 'N Country Greenway December 29, 2006 around the parking lot of the greenway west of Webb Road.

Pictured is Fran Gamester, president of the circle watering the redbud after planting. In the background is Laura Mendez, sophomore at Leto High School, one of the Youth Council teens who helped plant the redbuds.

The redbuds have magenta blooms in February, one of the first signs of spring.
